Natel Energy designs fish-friendly hydroelectric turbines called hydroEnginesⓇ. These turbines can generate over 1MW and must operate reliably in harsh environments at high efficiency and low cost.
Natel is searching for a creative, motivated mechanical engineer to help plan, design, analyze, test, and refine the company’s hydroelectric turbomachinery products. The engineer will use skill in applied mechanical engineering (mechanisms, structures, machine design). Creativity in product design is essential. This position reports directly to Natel’s Chief Technology Officer.
This role is for you if:
- You love machine design. You particularly enjoy design of mechanisms and rotating machinery. You sketch ideas in notebooks. You tinker. You are a maker. You have an extremely high degree of mechanical intuition. You are competent in doing rapid structural and kinematic analyses in your head or with a calculator; you routinely run these kinds of models as you evaluate the world around you.
- You find the possibility of new ideas exciting, not daunting. You enjoy all phases of the design process: defining specifications, concept development, detail design, supplier selection, and making and assembling individual parts and an entire system. You know how to use resources to learn new things and explore new possibilities.
- You really enjoy CAD. You are comfortable, happy, and competent both in the machine shop and behind a computer screen.
- You take personal pride in the quality of your work.
