Project Calculator
Please enter the head (in meters) and flow rate (in cubic meters per second) into the calculator and an approximate capacity in kW will be provided. Head should be between 2 and 10 meters.
A simple way to approximate the total possible power that could be generated from your site is to use the following equation:
- P = ρ*g*H*Q
- P is Power
- ρ is the density of water
- g is acceleration due to gravity
- H is height or head available
- Q is flow rate
To get a more accurate estimate of the actual energy from the site, you would multiply the result of the above equation by the efficiency of the power plant. Plant efficiency will depend on several factors including turbine choice, intake and outlet design. For the purposes of this simple estimator we are choosing to use a plant efficiency of 70%, but the actual efficiency for your project could well be lower or higher than that.
