TIME includes Natel on both the World’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 and America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 lists

March 25, 2025

Alameda, CA, March 25 — Natel Energy has been included on both the World’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 and America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 lists assembled by TIME and Statista Inc. The award lists were announced on March 25th, 2025, and can be viewed on TIME’s website.

To assemble these lists, Statista, the leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, gathered data from company applications, annual reports, media monitoring, and other public sources. Statista also worked with specialized data partners HolonIQ and LexisNexis® Intellectual Property Solutions.

Statista ranked the winners based on three evaluation criteria:

  • Positive environmental impact: based on the quality and impact of product/service portfolio and the expertise of leadership teams, provided by HolonIQ.
  • Financial strength: based on analysis of data points like revenue and employee and funding information.
  • Innovation drive: based on the Patent Asset Index featured in LexisNexis® Intellectual Property Solutions.

Natel is ecstatic to have been selected for both The World’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 and America’s Top GreenTech Companies 2025 by TIME and to have been recognized through Statista's rigorous vetting process. Both lists recognized 250 companies each, and Natel was ranked 55th in America and 99th worldwide.

"At Natel, we believe that renewable energy must work in harmony with nature. Being recognized by TIME as one of the top GreenTech companies—both in the US and in the world—is a testament to the power of innovation in solving our biggest climate and biodiversity challenges. We’re honored to be part of the global movement driving sustainable solutions for the future," said Gia Schneider, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Natel Energy.

Natel Energy’s FishSafe™ turbine designs have repeatedly demonstrated 98-100% through-turbine passage survival for a variety of fish species, offering a transformative solution for balancing hydropower generation with ecological restoration. Downstream fish passage is essential for many species that rely on migration to complete their life cycles. When fish populations thrive, entire ecosystems—including people, wildlife, and fisheries—benefit. However, conventional hydropower infrastructure has historically disrupted these natural cycles, limiting both fish movement and the transport of sediment critical to river health.

Natel Energy’s FishSafe™ turbines address this challenge by enabling both fish survival and renewable power generation. Upgrading existing hydropower plants with FishSafe™ turbines reconnects rivers—allowing for the natural movement of aquatic organisms and sediment—while also delivering reliable, baseload power to the grid.

“Hydropower plays a crucial role in the clean energy transition, but it must evolve to better support the ecosystems it depends upon,” said Natel CEO Bill Malus. “FishSafe™ turbines allow us to expand baseload energy capacity while restoring ecological connections—offering a win-win solution for people and the planet.”
